A point is meaningful only when it belongs to the correct floor reference.
Make floor names unmistakable
Use names that the field team and building occupants recognize. Avoid several images all called “Main floor” or a numbering scheme that conflicts with the building’s own labels. Confirm the floor order and any unusual mezzanine or split-level arrangement before the visit.
Check that each image shows the right level and is oriented consistently where practical. A familiar staircase or lift lobby is a useful landmark, but it should not replace a clear floor label.
Prepare each floor independently
Calibrate each floor against its own reliable dimension. Do not assume images exported from different source files share the same scale or crop. Inspect the mobile view of each floor before starting a long route.
Open the assignments needed for the visit while online. A cached floor from a previous visit does not prove that another level or a replacement image is available. Confirm the actual resource you plan to use.
Keep capture and transitions explicit
Before capturing, verify the floor name and your position on that floor. At stairs or lifts, finish the current stop and deliberately switch to the next floor’s assignment. This simple pause prevents observations from being placed on the wrong level.
A radio visible from another floor is still an observation at your current position. Do not move the measurement to the AP’s assumed floor. The survey records where the receiver was, not where you think the transmitter is installed.
Review by floor before combining results
Reconcile point counts and inspect each floor separately. Look for missing levels, misplaced points or a report generated with the wrong scope. Explain which areas were included when sharing a building-wide summary.
When comparing later visits, match the floor references as well as the network filters. If a level has been remodeled or renamed, preserve the relationship to the earlier survey so readers can understand what changed.
Take it into the field
- Use unambiguous floor names and order.
- Calibrate and cache each floor separately.
- Confirm the floor before every capture sequence.
- Review each floor’s points and export scope.
