Changing the picture behind a point can change its meaning even when the coordinates stay the same.
Understand what a position refers to
A survey point is tied to a position on a particular floor reference. If the source image changes its crop, rotation or room layout, the same normalized coordinates may appear in a different place. The recorded observation itself has not moved.
This is why a floor replacement deserves more care than updating a decorative image. Historical measurements should remain understandable against the reference used during the visit.
Separate corrections from layout changes
A spelling correction in a room label is different from moving walls or adding a wing. Record what changed and whether the coordinate reference remains aligned. If you cannot establish that relationship, avoid describing the old and new views as directly equivalent.
Keep the original source plan where you are authorized to retain it. Clear names and version notes help another person recognize whether they are looking at the pre-change or post-change layout.
Prepare the field team for the new version
After replacing a floor image, inspect its scale and markers on the web and then open it on the survey device. Confirm that the updated resource is available before going offline. A cached image may be useful for recovery but should not be mistaken for a newly prepared version.
Tell surveyors which assignment and floor to use. If a draft was started against an earlier layout, resolve how it will be completed before mixing it with a new visit.
Explain comparison limits
A before-and-after report should distinguish a network change from a building-layout change. If both happened, note both. Repeat the important real-world positions where possible and explain any areas that can no longer be matched.
Wi-Fi Master Planner retains floor versions and completed survey observations. Use that history to preserve context. A transparent statement that a room changed is more trustworthy than a polished overlay that suggests a precision the source plans cannot support.
Take it into the field
- Check crop, orientation, scale and layout changes.
- Preserve the earlier reference and describe the revision.
- Refresh the intended floor before field capture.
- State limits when comparing different layouts.
